A Belated Memorial Day Weekend Post.

We did something for Memorial Day Weekend that I have never done.

We went to the lake.

I know, I know, EVERYONE goes to the lake for Memorial Day and Labor Day, right?  Not us.  We never have (at least not as a family).  But this year we did.

Greg's boss Sherwood has been gracious enough to invite us to his lake home several times, but it has never worked out until now.  We looked forward to a weekend away, and even survived the long and winding road to Bull Shoals.  We couldn't leave Jefferson County until Saturday morning, because Laurel would lose perfect attendance if we did (and she said it was a 9 of importance on a scale of 1 to 10), but we confirmed that Ethan is a bully traveler these days.  The child barely whimpered the entire time.

We rolled into Bull Shoals just in time for Ethan's nap; upon his awakening, we hit the lake.  It was a gorgeous day and the lake was not crowded at all.  We all had a wonderful time:

Sherwood bought some magnificent steaks and grilled them for us Saturday night -- all the fresh air and water made us ravenous and we did justice to the meal, then visited until we were exhausted.

On Sunday we visited the dam and then went out to the lake for some more fun:

See the gray cast overhead?  Yeah, we got stuck in a thunderstorm.  A bit of a doozy of one, in fact, but a very nice couple (also from Jefferson County, go figure) invited us into their cabin cruiser for shelter.  They plied the kids with cookies and we had a nice visit.

We had a fantastic time and can't wait to return.  Many thanks to our gracious host!
