One Fish, Two Fish . . .
bluegill fish, hybrid sunfish.
Last Saturday Laurel attended the third installment of her fishing clinics provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
She caught ten fish. 10. Ten. All were hybrid sunfish but one, which was a bluegill.
At one point she mentioned to the instructors that she had read catfish have taste buds all over their bodies, allowing them to taste with their entire body. One of the instructors said he didn't know about that and deferred to another, who said it wasn't true.
But it is -- which brings me to one of my biggest pet peeves: when someone doesn't know the answer and just makes it up instead of saying, 'You know what? Good question. I don't have the answer to that, so I'll have to check and get back to you.' The first instructor did that, but the second didn't. Shame on him for giving out incorrect information. I've talked to Laurel about this and told her that smart people know they don't have all the answers and are totally okay with that because that is an opportunity to learn. I also reminded her this is the precise reason she should be skeptical of any information she gets from anyone. /soapbox
Anyway! Laurel had a good time and caught lots of fish. They were so attracted to her that she could literally dip her bait in the water and catch one. Greg took photos, and they are excellent:
