Snow! Lots of Snow!
We got Lots of Snow on Friday. Two things I learned when we got Lots of Snow:
- People who drive Jaguars should not think that by paying a Whole Lot of Money for their car, they have bought infallibility to match their ego. This means you, Mr. Jaguar Driver who had no business even trying to make it up a hill on Route 21 which hadn't been plowed since sometime before the last 4-6 inches of snow fell. Was it an extension of the pomposity which caused you to buy that car that also caused you to think that piddly little car could make it up that hill? Did you hear us laughing at you and pounding our steering wheels in frustration as you blocked 2 lanes of traffic while you gunned it, spinning your wheels, to try to go up that hill instead of backing out of the way to let us around? Yes, I know, we finally all just locked our AWD and passed you on the right, blazing new trails through the snow with the greatest of ease. My advice? Don't try to impress people by driving your Jag in the snow. You looked foolish.
- If you were to ask me right here and now what my next car would be, it would be another Nissan Murano. While other vehicles slid around like hockey pucks on steroids, our Murano was steady as she goes all the way to preschool and then downtown to work. She and I confidently rolled through unplowed roads with 8-10 inches of snow while bigger rigs fishtailed and spun. Of course, it could be that I'm a better snow driver than some of the others, but I am convinced one is only as good as one's equipment.
Yesterday we went to Laurel's old school, like many kids do, to go sledding. Last time it snowed, Ethan wasn't so thrilled about it. This time was a whole different story. He rode the hill like a champ. Here are several photos of the fun:
Ethan had to muster up a lot of nerve before attempting this slide:
This is my very favorite shot because it reminds me of Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes, which is one of my all-time favorite comic strips. Calvin and Hobbes were often sledding:
Things devolved into a snowball fight. Ethan laughed SO HARD at the antics and really got into it, picking up snow and throwing it at me. I got all involved in it too, and we were having a GREAT time until Ethan sat in a puddle of melted snow, soaking his jeans:
Despite his soaking, Ethan dearly wanted to continue and expressed his desire as fervently as possible. Alas, his mother is a party-pooper and felt he should get home to change into dry clothes and take a nap
Snows like these don't come along that often. Even rarer are the days when the temperature is in the 40s, the wind isn't blowing, and the snow is still on the ground, allowing for fun like this without the miserable cold. I'm really glad we took the time away from all our stupid obligations to spend this time with the kids. I suspect they'll remember it. If they don't, I'll drag out the photos, by god.
