The Guitar Man.

When Laurel first started playing guitar, she hated it.  H-a-t-e-d it.  We had several knock-down, drag-out, caterwauling scream fits about the idea that she was actually going to have to practice and struggle to do well with it.  She was under the impression that because reading and schoolwork came so easily to her, anything that required effort was not worth her time.

Enter Eric, her guitar teacher.  Eric is a late teens, early twenty-something with curly hair and a laid-back attitude.  Laurel developed an enormous crush on him on sight (since amended to just a slight crush because he's 'too old' for marrying).  She even told him about her feelings, poor guy.  Anyway, Eric somehow managed to turn Laurel's attitude around and now she loves her guitar and looks forward to lessons every single week.

We decided to get Eric a modest Christmas gift because he has done so much for her.  Laurel, having determined she wants to be a spy, went all CIA and found out that Eric loves Steak-n-Shake.  So off we went to purchase a Steak-n-Shake gift card, which we presented to Eric just before Christmas.

Not only did Eric thank and hug Laurel, but he came out personally and thanked me.  That would have been enough, but at Laurel's next lesson, that boy gave her a card with the following written inside:

Dear Laurel,

Thank you so much for the Steak-n-Shake gift card.  It was very thoughtful of you.  Steak-n-Shake is one of my favorite restaurants and I go there often, so I will be sure to put your present to good use.  Thanks again.  You are a wonderful student and an amazing person.

Eric

This from a 20-year-old?!!!!

Laurel was just aglow about the card.  That boy was raised RIGHT.
