Young Love.
Laurel and Evan have had an on-again, off-again relationship for more than a year now. They've been in the same class since Kindergarten. Laurel had a crush on Evan, and vice-versa, but he picks on her (as boys are wont to do when they like a girl). At one point, they were sitting next to each other in class when Laurel told the teacher she felt they should be separated so they wouldn't argue so much. The teacher obliged, and I later found out that Evan went home that night and cried about it.
The other day, Laurel was under the weather. She went to the nurse's office twice in one day with a low-grade fever and an upset stomach. She was determined to stay at school, because she doesn't want to lose her perfect attendance for the year with only 13.5 days left. She stuck it out.
Yesterday, Laurel told me Evan had given her an envelope and she hadn't opened it. So she opened it in front of me. Here is what he gave her:
I've had some experience with this boy, and he's as ornery as they come, but he is so funny about it that you can't help but fall for him. He's got a dry sense of humor just like Laurel, and he's comedic beyond his years. And clearly he has a sensitive side. It's no wonder she likes him so much. This card almost made me cry, it was so cute -- I'm so glad Laurel has someone like this.
Even if they fight like dogs sometimes.
