Gasoline Shortage.
I just want to record this for posterity, lest we forget.
Today, Hurricane Ike hit Texas, where we have a lot of gas refineries. Greg went to fuel up the Malibu (we were coasting on less than 1/8 of a tank, which would have driven my father nutso). He had to go to 3 stations before he could find regular unleaded gasoline.
It's not so much that we really have a gasoline shortage -- it's that people are panicking, running to the stations and filling up, anticipating a spike in prices -- so the stations are running out of fuel. Greg was in line behind someone at the gas station having a discussion with the cashier. The cashier said in a normal night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., they do approximately $900 worth of business. Last night, it was $6,000.
Wow.
