Thank You, Jack White.
There aren't many bands I'd pay to see,
But a Jack White band is a band for me.
The White Stripes aren't touring, but the Raconteurs are,
So eager, Greg and I rushed to the bar.
A line to get in, and if you got there early,
you got to see a blonde bimbo get surly
after she triggered the exit alarm
(you'd think after that she'd not want to do harm).
We bribed the good pizza guys right 'cross the way,
and they brought us a pie that was made fresh that day.
We sat in the bar with Anna and Kyle.
Know them? We didn't, but chatted awhile.
Then lo! It was time to enter the Pageant
and grab a few beers and savor the moment.
Then out came the opening act, oh my god.
The Fiery Furnaces were um, very 'mod.'
But I had my earplugs because I am old --
and man, did that help (upped my tolerance threshold).
Then they were gone and my earplugs came out --
I knew Raconteurs were lurking about.
And yes! Out they came and I cheered for Jack White
and knew I was in for a helluva night.
'Cause our last rock concert was 2001,
and I, I forgot it was so goddamn fun.
The whole band came out -- guitars, vocals screaming,
and I was so thrilled, I felt like I was dreaming!
I love this band so, how do I explain?
Even I will stay up, even I won't complain
about the late night, the loud noise, the ears ringing
just for the chance to hear Jack White's singing.
So thank you, Jack White, for a wonderful date.
Not with you, but with Greg, my whole-life-long mate
whose idea this was, to come hear you play
because he knows me, and knew you'd make my day.
Note: We took some video of the show but it didn't turn out well from Greg's phone (in the phone's defense, it was a tall order). So I'm embedding a YouTube video of a live TV performance of what is right now probably my fave song, primarily because the part where Jack White comes in ("If you're looking for an accomplice...") is just so dadgum sweet.
